EATING DISORDERS
Eating disorders pose a serious threat to the health and well being of the individuals suffering from these problems as well as to their families and loved ones. In fact, eating disorders have the highest mortality rate of all mental illnesses. Given the significant risks involved in these disorders it is imperative to find a therapist who specializes in their treatment.
As active group leaders and speakers for the Eating Disorder Association of New Jersey, our state chapter of the National Eating Disorder Association, we have worked with both individuals and families trying to cope with and recover from eating disorders, whether its anorexia, bulimia, binge eating, orthorexia or some combination of these behaviors. Our approach incorporates the latest research on eating disorder treatment, including the Maudsley Method for young adolescents and their families, as well as more traditional approaches. There is no one size fits all in the treatment of eating disorders which means individualized treatment plans are designed to fit the needs of each client. In addition, due to the significant health risks involved, we typically work closely with other treatment professionals, including physicians, nutritionists and psychiatrists. Most importantly, Partners in Counseling places the greatest emphasis on creating a safe and nurturing environment that will help sustain our clients through the setbacks that are typical of the "one step forward, two steps back" nature of eating disorder recovery. This caring and supportive relationship between therapist and client, in conjunction with proven treatment methods, can result in full recovery.
